I am just not smart

I have never been smart nor have I ever claimed to be, but my fascination with PCs is mainly due to that I can offload a lot of thinking onto a machine just like i do with hand held calculators or these days our telephones. As well I have always had an interest in anything scientific. It might have started with science fiction, but those stories were based on plausible science.

i do not like today's stories which are usually based on magic, which is pure fantasy. I can't see that being bit by a long toothed teenager is going to make me a kung-fu expert with a girlfriend that wants me to walk around bare chested. I have enough hair to resemble a werewolf, but attractive it is not. if anything it will simply cause infection and i'll be over billed by the ER and denied any pain meds.

But back to early sci-fi, warp drive engines, long range communication, advanced medicine these are real scientific concepts and I wanted to know more. I might not have the mental dexterity to be a scientist, but one day I might learn to spell via experience with spell check and do some wiz bang functions on a real computer other than spell check, like repair photographs or publish something written. At least if I could find employment I would be able to participate in some sort of fascinating world. For many years i was a PC technician as many people were in the late 90s and early 00s. The Y2K thing and the PC was developing rapidly, so there needed to be people to deploy them as well as work on them. Computers have since fell into the appliance category, so now I play checkers with old TV repairmen.

Computers are now our smart phone. They have the power to do all sorts of common tasks other than taking one's image in a bathroom mirror. Ironically, I am in school to further my knowledge base into Networking Technologies, but my outlook is grim and feel the halcyon days are now behind me and single parenthood, failing health and financial struggle are all that lay ahead. All the more reason to write about it I suppose. Now where were those smart phone images? just kidding. Cozy up to the old hand held for some "online checkers"..... what a crazy world.
